Hire a canal boat on the Canal du Midi to Toulouse
Head west on your canal barge, cruising along the Canal du Midi from Port Lauragais to Toulouse. This short break boating holiday itinerary takes you to charming towns while the fine gastronomy of the south-west can be found in the markets and restaurants located along the canal.
Located midway between Toulouse and Carcassonne, Port Lauragais is an excellent starting point for renting a canal boat on the Canal du Midi. From here you’re in the perfect location for exploring the riches of the ‘Canal Royal du Languedoc’ - the original name of the Canal du Midi during the reign of King Louis XIV.
Port Lauragais: Avignonet Lauragais (2km away), old tower (1606), church and restored water mill, wines of Fronton, Maison de la Haute-Garonne for stocking up on regional specialities
Villefranche de Lauragais: 13th century bastide village with narrow streets and half-timbered houses
Montgiscard: Saint-André gothic church, Escarbille charming waterside restaurant also offering takeaway!
Toulouse: Capitol Square, the Museum of the Augustinian, the Basilique Saint-Sernin, the Convent of the Jacobins, the Jardin des Plantes, Cité de l'Espace with its life size model of the Ariane 5 space rocket and a replica MIR space station!
