A 10-day boating holiday itinerary has many advantages. To begin with, your start day or return to base day will instead fall outside of the peak weekend days. This means that not only may you notice less traffic on the roads when travelling to the Nicols base but that our teams will have much more time to dedicate to going through everything about your boat and navigation on the waterways. Also by stretching to 10-days canal boat hire, you can choose one of our standard "one week" routes and take your time to increase either the number of stop-off points or the time you spend at each, or you might decide to explore further afield with a longer route such as the one suggested below.
Located in the heart of the Hungarian Great Plains region, our Kisköre boating holidays base is located on the shores of Lake Tisza – Hungary’s largest artificial freshwater lake. Set sail on board your spacious and stylish canal boat for an adventure discovering the preserved landscapes that surround the River Tisza.

With its sandy beach, waterslides that drop straight in to the Tisza and fish-rich waters, Kisköre is a paradise for those who love life in, on and around the waterways. Spend some time here before setting off on the rest of your boating holiday.
Abádszalók: a seaside resort on Lake Tisza
This bustling town on the south shore of Lake Tisza, facing a vast bay, is a popular boating holiday spot for families. Arrive on your self-drive canal boat (no previous boating holiday experience needed!) and enjoy its beautiful sandy beach and giant water slide as well as leisure activities such as water skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, paddle boarding and being towed around at high speed on inflatables!

Hortobágy: in the heart of the Hungarian ‘Puszta’
Going up the Tisza River, moor your canal boat on the shore to explore the Hortobágy National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The "Puszta", the largest steppe in Central Europe, offers a unique experience to see the work of shepherds, herders and horse keepers in the impressive location between ponds, green pastures and bird reserves. Located in the centre of this region the city of Hortobágy is a ‘must see’ on your boating holiday itinerary – especially the iconic nine-arched bridge that crosses the river of the same name.
Tiszacsege: found at the entrance to the Hortobágy nature reserve
Situated at the gateway to the Hortobágy National Park on the left bank of the Tisza River, Tiszacsege enjoys a privileged location for exploring the vast steppes (grasslands) of the Hungarian "puszta". The waters of the thermal baths attraction (with two indoor and outdoor pools) are known for their medicinal properties.
Tiszaújváros: the best place to enjoy a thermal tradition!
Did you know that hot baths are part of Hungarian culture? A stopover in Tiszaújváros is great for experiencing these thermal baths. Relax here or, if your crew is a little more energetic, test out the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, wave pools, giant slides and more at this excellent holiday attraction.
Tiszadob: visit the charming Andrássy Castle
Set on the banks of a tributary of the Tisza River, the 19th-century Andrássy Castle is charming with its neo-Gothic and romantic-inspired architecture. If you’re exploring this area during your canal boat holiday then a visit to what is a labyrinth of greenery in the castle gardens is highly recommended.
Tiszalök: enjoy an impressive nature walk alongside the Tisza River
As you arrive in Tiszalök onboard your self-drive canal boat the imposing and impressive hydroelectric power station that sits on the Tisza River confronts you. There is also a long wooden footbridge and trail – moor up and set off on foot to enjoy the tranquillity of the beautiful surrounding wetlands.
