Beautiful Alsace is steeped in history, and the best way to see it is by canal. Ken Wright report.
The Marne au Rhin canal is situated in the north-east of France and begins its 194 mile journey in Vitry-le-François in Champagne-Ardenne, passes through Lorraine and on to where it joins the Rhine at Strasbourg, capital of the tiny, yet beautiful formed, region of Alsace, perched in France's border with Germany and Switzerland.
