Description of
the boating holiday

Pottery, porcelain and castles along the Marne-Rhine Canal

With a weekend cruising along the Marne-Rhine canal, between Saverne and Niderviller, you will discover Alsace's historic and patrimonial treasures while indulging in delicious local cuisine in traditional restaurants. A special highlight of the trip is the use of the impressive boat lift Arzviller!

Departure base

Located at the foot of the Regional Natural Park of the Northern Vosges which is classified as a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, the marina of Saverne is an excellent starting point for a boating holiday.  From here you can discover a region rich in gastronomy, culture, heritage and nature.

Places to see and things to do

Saverne: Rohan castle (museum), Haut-Barr castle, Saverne‘s old town, Centre Nautique l’Océanide – waterpark

Lutzelbourg: Wurm crystal factory, castle, panoramic views of the valley, children’s playground Arzviller: Boat lift, engine room, Houseboat museum, "Fusion Libre" crystal factory, alpine luge coaster ride

Niderviller: Tunnels (475m & 2306m), Pottery museum and factory shop, Marc Chagall stained glass at the Chapelle des Cordeliers, Sarrebourg (6km from Niderviller):

You’ve reached the furthest point on your boating weekend on the Marne-Rhine canal, so it’s time to head back to the starting base at Saverne, perhaps stopping at some of your favourite discoveries on the return journey.

We’ll be back!
In two days, we thoroughly enjoyed the variety of Alsatian landscapes along the Marne-Rhine canal - the castles, the green landscapes and, of course, the experience of the forgetting the magnificent boat lift at Artzviller. We will return!
