Important information: part of the canal from Nantes to Brest (between the city of Redon and the junction with the Erdre) is closed to navigation from autumn 2022 until spring 2024.
Therefore, our base in Sucé sur Erdre will be closed for the entire 2023 season.
One-way trips from Glénac to Sucé sur Erdre will not be possible during this period.
Hire a canal boat for a cruise along the beautiful Canal de Nantes à Brest and River Erdre – this four-day short break boating holiday is a one-way itinerary between our two Nicols bases in Brittany at Glénac and Sucé-sur-Erdre.
Your canal boating holiday in Brittany begins at the Nicols base in Glénac, located in the heart of Morbihan. Located just 11km from Redon, the town of Glénac is easily accessible by train (Redon TGV) or by plane (Nantes airport). If you travel to Glénac by car then the Nicols base is equipped with parking and a private garage to park your vehicle.
Glénac: a small quiet village with a marsh area full of wild birds, restaurant in the village centre is also an excellent place to purchase groceries to take with you on your trip – including fresh bread and croissants!
Redon: historic town with pedestrian streets, Museum of the west shipping industry, guided tour of the abbey or of the monastery of the Calvairiennes
Guenrouët: Kerisac cider factory, Swimming pool with slides, mini-golf
Blain: La Groulais Castle, Various footpaths from the port for walks
Quiheix: "Plaine de Mazerolles" a wildlife swamp on the Erdre
Sucé-sur-Erdre: The Erdre castles – 17 castles in just 15kms
We decided on the one-way boating holiday itinerary on the Canal de Nantes à Brest choosing the direction from Sucé-sur-Erdre to Glénac. As beginners to boating we appreciated meeting lock-keeper Dominique Quiheix who taught us how to use manual locks. Thanks to Dominique, we leave feeling like true captains of the inland waterways!
